Journal of Religious Education

FEATURES for the Journal of Religious Education

While continuing to focus on articles concerning the theory and practice of religious education in its various settings, the Journal of Religious Education will try to give its readers a broader perspective on the field.

The features allow a broad scope for the journal, making it more informative about issues and developments in religious education. Also, it will give readers more opportunity to submit short, useful contributions that can help the Journal a better medium for the informed discussion of religious education both in Australia and internationally.

Not all of the features will appear in each issue. They will be included according to the material available when each of the four issues per year goes to press.

Conferences: Religious educators need to keep informed about upcoming conferences on religious education – and about conferences on education, theology, scripture and religion studies that have implications for religious education. In addition, this section will at times report on developments and issues that have been considered at various conferences in Australia and overseas.
Notes on Research: This section will briefly inform readers about the latest research that has a bearing on religious education. It will summarise relevant research done in Australia and overseas.
Ideas for Practitioners: This section allows a special place for the sharing of practical ideas and approaches that have ‘worked’. Sometimes it will be a failure that is very instructive! It can include short case studies, lesson plans, notes on approaches, student response etc. Or it might include summary ideas on how to deal with different topics, for example prayer, liturgy , parish retreat etc. At times this section will include theological background to particular teaching topics.
Correspondence: This will include excerpts from letters to the Editor to enable feedback and ongoing discussion from articles and other materials in the journal. This section can promote more communication on key issues.
Internet Resources for Religious Education: This section will keep readers up to date on an initiative to put resources for religious education on the Internet web pages of the Moral and Religious Education Project at Australian Catholic University.
