What makes a school ‘Catholic’?

Professor Groome will draw on themes from his book Educating for Life, focusing on the integration of faith and life across the curriculum.   The symposium will include opportunities for discussion and questions.   In the final session, Prof Groome will share some recent reflections on the use of shared Christian praxis in the school context.

Dr Thomas H. Groome is a senior Professor of Theology and Religious Education at the Institute Pastoral Ministry and Religious Education and, Boston College, USA.   Over the past 25 years Thomas Groome has made over 500 public presentations, including keynote addresses at all the major conferences of religious educators in North America, both Catholic and Protestant.   He has also lectured widely beyond the United States, and has received many prestigious awards.

Prof Groome is widely published with over 100 articles and essays on religious education and pastoral ministry.   He is the primary author of Sadlier’s Coming to Faith program (K–8) and the God With Us program (K–8).   His other publications include  Educating for Life:  A Spiritual vision for every teacher and parent,      Sharing Faith:  A comprehensive approach to Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry,    and  Christian Religious Education:  Sharing our story and vision.   He holds a doctorate in theology and education from Union Theological Seminary in New York and Columbia University Teachers College;   and an MA in Religious Education from Fordham University in New York.   He also studied theology at St Patrick’s seminary, Carlow, Ireland.
